Vineyards inland in Southern California’s
mostly hot and arid region are gaining
notice, and Temecula in particular is gener-
ating an ardent following for its wines and
sheer determination to grow grapes in a chal-
lenging location. Get an overview of the wine
scene, literally, during the Temecula Valley
Balloon and Wine festival.
San Diego usually means sun and sand,
but just an hour north you’ll find there’s
wine too. The two primary growing
regions, San Pasqual and Ramona Valley,
continue to develop with many wineries
offering tastings and tours. One standout
in San Pasqual is Orfila, an ultra-premium
