A visit to Del Norte County is for those
who crave outdoor adventure in the
Redwood National Park; paddling,
fishing and floating two wild and scenic
rivers; exploring 10 Pacific Ocean beaches
and breathing the purest air along the
western seaboard. Located in California’s
far north, road-trip along scenic highways
or hop on a direct flight to Crescent City
from Oakland International Airport (OAK)
JEDEDIAH SMITH REDWOODS STATE PARK, left; Smith River, right..
to access 1,000 miles of pure nature. Filled
with abundant wildlife, the tallest coastal
redwood trees on earth, ancient tribal lands
and a rich history; delicious restaurants,
festive events, beach and riverfront lodging
and shopping complete the visit.
Begin with horseback riding on an
empty beach or whale watching followed by
a fresh seafood lunch. Hike into the Red-
wood National and State Parks to see the
majestic giant old-growth trees. Go for a
row in a redwood canoe hand carved by the
Yurok people or take an exhilarating jet boat
ride up the Klamath River. Tide pool around
a lighthouse that is only accessible at
low tide. Listen to sea lions bark along the
harbor or get a front row seat watching
Roosevelt elk graze before you settle in to
plan your next several days of activities,
steeped in nature.
